I have a pair of shoes that I really like. And that’s pretty amazing since I really don’t like shoes . . .
Several months ago, the stitching on the toe of the left shoe came undone. The shoe looked worn. I felt disheveled when I wore them. So, they’ve been sitting in the back of my closet gathering dust.
I know I could have taken them to the shoe shop. But my last forays have been neither pleasant nor a source of quality workmanship.
I recently heard the saying “Use it up. Wear it out. Make it do. Or do without.”
I decided to gird up my loins, and ‘make it do’ by sewing the shoe myself. I’m happy to report that I was successful. I can now add sewing shoes to the list of items that I have sewn . . .
The quality of sewing is very nice (nicer than what I would have received from one of the shoe repair stores.) So, now I am happily back to wearing them. And I don’t feel disheveled — fashionable instead . . .
P.S. The above shoes are NOT mine . . .
That is so awesome. Hee He…I didn’t know it was possible to do that. You’ve inspired me.
Inspired you to what? Sew shoes?
Or waste not want not? I hope both . . . By the way, I hope all is going well for you and your little family!
Use it up, wear it out make it do or do without…. thanks Nina….
Lets see if I have it memorized .. use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without… Ummm not yet… but I will keep this in mind. It’s a great phrase to help remind me NOT to stick it back in the closet.
I have been working on becoming less of a pack rat. It’s hard after 30 years in the same house. With the econonic crunch though, it’s gotten easier for me to unload items I am not using. I put them in my trunk and take them to the bins in the grocery store parking lots. I know somebody can use them even if they need fixing. Hey! just like your shoes. Thanks for your nice words at my blog.
Hi Connie,
De-junking is one of my favorite pastimes. Sounds like you’re doing great to not only clean out closets but to help out those less fortunate. Way to go!!
